Technical sessions will take place at Sete Cidades and Flores conference rooms.

Guimarães is a middle sized city in the Northwest of Portugal that played a leading role in the foundation of the country in the XII century. Its historical centre is considered as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and Guimarães is European Capital of Culture 2012 and will be European Capital of Sports in 2013.

The city of Guimarães is like no other city in Portugal. Its past is so intimately intertwined with the History of Portugal that it is commonly and proudly referred to as the Cradle of the Nation. Tradition has it that the boy who would one day be crowned the first King of Portugal in 1179 was born and baptised in Guimarães in 1111.

Guimarães is 50 km from Porto, the second largest town in Portugal, worldwide famous for Porto Wine. Porto´s historical centre is also considered as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

The weather in Portugal in June is usually warm and dry with temperatures ranging from 30ºC in day time to 20ºC in night time. Please be prepared and hopefully you will enjoy your stay in this country during the 1^st International Conference on Natural Fibres.

Fees and deadlines

The symposium fees are as follows, in euros:

• 1 - Deadline for author's registration and payment is 5^th May.
• 2 - Students are required to provide a proof to support their application for student rate. Please send it to secretariat@icnf2013.com
• 3 - Includes ONLY conference cocktail, visit to Guimarães and visit to Porto

Presenting authors can submit 2 articles, students 1. Additional articles of presenting authors will be subject to a fee of 50 euros each.

Fees include:

Attendance to all sessions, abstract book and CD of proceedings with full papers of all oral and poster presentations, coffee/tea-breaks, 3 lunches.

Transportation

If you come from abroad, please make your travel arrangements to fly to Porto (OPO). From Porto airport to Guimarães it is about 50 km and you can:

• Take a taxi (about 60 €, good if you are a group of 3); or,
• Get a bus at the airport, the price is about 7,5 euros (book in advance at getbus); or,
• Rent a car at the airport (take A28 direction Valença, take A3 direction Braga/Valença, take A7 direction Guimarães); or,
• Take the Metro; to Campanhã train station, direct. After leaving arrivals area, follow the Metro signs to the -1 floor, get a pre-boarding Z4 ticket (Andante) from machines and validate it before boarding; 33-36 min., 1,80 € (+ 0,50 € the first time so keep the Andante as you can reload it next time).
  In Campanhã train station get a ticket (3,00 €) and take the urban train to Guimarães, 1 h 11 min., direct, no changes. Trains leave nearly every hour at 25 min. past the hour*; [Timetables].
  From Guimarães train station, walk or take a taxi (hotel conference is very close to the station).

* At rush hours trains might be very busy. It may be worth taking the train at S. Bento station, in the city centre. In this case change metro at Trindade and take the yellow line to S. Bento, 2 stops in the direction of Santo Ovídeo. Trains leave S. Bento at 20 min. past the hour.
